W elcome to the Floral St Peter Port website. The Floral St Peter Port committee was formed by the Douzaine in 2006, and is working to make St Peter Port a nicer place for everyone; residents, tourists, workers, shoppers, and even those who just use it as a car park! If this ties in to the Floral Guernsey competition, so much the better. Through this website we hope to keep you informed about what we are up to, and make it easy for you to get involved, and have some fun, too.

2009 – Going for Gold!

2009 logoSpring has sprung, all the green shoots are starting to show, and the St Peter Port Floral Committee has come out of hibernation! We’ve spent the winter dreaming, and have got plenty of plans to polish up the parish a bit more this year. :-) Stay tuned for details, and as always, help, comments and ideas are welcome.

Next Year…

To be honest, there’s not a lot going on at the moment. We’re all down the beach, enjoying a well deserved break… but we can’t switch our brains off! So while it’s too hot to do any real work, join us in having a think.

Are there any grot spots around town you’d like to see us tackle? Any areas you think need a little TLC to perk them up? Any fantastic ideas you’ve had but don’t have the man/woman power… or the money? Please let us know, in the comments here, or on facebook, or via our email contact form.

Next year’s festival week dates have been set by those who do that kind of thing:

Spring ~ 25th April
Summer ~ 4th July
Autumn ~ 26th September

Put them in your diary now! This year Lesley took people on a guided walk through town, approximating the judging route, and highlighting some interesting snippets of history. We hope to repeat that next year, but what else could we do?

If you fancy having a go at the walk yourself, a printed version is available at the tourist office. You never know, you might learn something! :-)

Silver Gilt!

Mr Lowe with the school award. The results are in, and we did fantastically well, coming a close second in the overall island competition, we got a Silver Gilt Award!
We also cleaned up in the other areas, picking up the Best Floral Display for the Royal Courts, the Best Horticultural Award for the Fermain Valley Hotel, the Best School Award for Vauvert, and a special judges discretionary award for publicity and media – for this website!
Congratulations to St Andrews who won a Gold Award, and came first in the community competition.

So, Silver last year, Silver Gilt this year…. Gold next year? We’re going for it, and hope you’ll join us for the fun!

Thanks!

Waiting...
Judging day went well, it only rained a little bit, and the judges seemed to be impressed. They were particularly interested to see that we have a facebook page, so a big thanks to all who signed up as fans!

Thanks also to the Headteacher, staff, parents and pupils at Vauvert Primary School; Malcolm Cleal, Phil Merrien, and Bob Carré of States Work; Jan Dockerill of the Environment Department; Peter le Messurier from GROW; Steve Pestana the gardener in Fermain Valley; Jenny Griffiths from the Education Department; Margaret le Cras; Keith Pike; and Julie Carré who made the gâche!

As well as gâche, we had daisy cakes! You can find instructions to make your own here.

The day was written up in the Guernsey Press and we are now anxiously waiting results on Saturday!
